Imperial Honours and Awards System

Through the ages, governments, militaries and organisations have found it necessary to award personnel for efficiency, loyalty, bravery and dedication. The most prominent method of this has been through the use of awards and decorations such as stars and medals. Upon the formation of the Galactic Empire, Emperor Charon instructed that all of the Republic decorations were to be disbanded and a new Imperial System was to be put in place. A council of military and government officials was put into place to create the Imperial Honours and Awards System to ensure that there were sufficient decorations for the purposes of the New Order.

Once the Imperial Honours and Awards System (IHAS) was approved and published, the Imperial Security Bureau was given the task of monitoring the use of IHAS by both the Military and Civilian branches of the Empire. This was to ensure that the system was neither being abused, or ignored. The ISB Sector Offices were instructed to assist the Moffs and Military Commanders in the recommendation, consideration, approval and awarding of awards.

A special provision was included into the IHAS which allows the wearing of 'Special Awards'. These awards are generally either awards from a particular system government, or a prominent figure in the Galaxy. Special Awards are awards normally outside of the established IHAS which have been approved by the Emperor for personnel to wear. Applications for the addition of new Special Awards must be made to the Imperial High Command, and approved by The Throne.

Recommending Awards

All Imperials, regardless of rank or position have the ability to recommend another Imperial for an award. Award recommendations should be made to the person's direct Commanding Officer. In the case of secondary branch awards, the recommendation should be made to the supervisor within that branch. If in doubt as to who to contact, or whether a recommendation should be made, personnel should consult with the Imperial Security Bureau. Award recommendations need to include sufficient evidence demonstrating that the award's criteria have been met or exceeded.

Multiple Awards

Awards can be awarded numerous times, and in some cases there are different colour combinations on the award ribbon to demonstrate this. In cases where an award is shown to have different ribbons for either different classes or numbers of the award, then the award is limited to those classes or numbers and may not be exceeded. For awards that ado not have different ribbons for numbers; these may be used in conjuncture with a clasp for the medal, or a disc for the ribbon as shown below.

Mounting Ribbons

Ribbons are worn in rows of four, with precedence going from top left, to bottom right. Ribbon rows are begun from the bottom however, and if a row of less than four is needed, than the row is to be centred as demonstrated below.

Mounting Medals

When medals are worn, all medals are worn in a single row, side by side with the highest level medal to the left slightly overlapping the medal to its right. When there are seven or more medals, then the medal overlap is increased to exactly halfway. Examples of both can be seen below.
